This Flemish retable is signed by one of the finest workshops in Antwerp and constitutes a rectangular structure in which the figures, isolated or connected to the architectural elements, fit into one another. They portray the shepherds’ adoration of the infant Christ in an urban setting. this nativity scene is the finest example of this genre in Portugal and is unique as it represents just one scene as well as the exceptional quality and preservation of the polychrome and gilt-work.
